host my site presentation

It was really interesting to listen to the host my site presentation today. I agree with what lou was saying that customer service is important. It was evident from the presentation that hostmysite customers should be able to rely on service from the company to maintain a quality server. He raised the question of quantity over quality of servers. Seeing that he met someone with the same size company that had greater signup and turnover compared to his less signups and less turnover. In an over sense of a business I feel as though having a quality product and customer service builds word of mouth and good will. I would value a loyal and satisfied customer base because it spurs future growth as well after hearing of a great product.

I didn't know too much about site hosting before today. It was cool to see how his business grew each year. It demonstrated some of the challenges one faces starting a business. It is an idea im sure everyone has thought about to I was interested in what he presented today.

American Idol wiki summary

Well this was the final article i was making edits to. It was one of the most entertaining because the american idol season had started. My roomies and I were watching the bloopers and stuff at the time of my edits. I tried to show that it was fun through my edits but it wasnt working. When I added a section about the new season, someone deleted it pretty quickly. This aritcle has tons of attention!! There are a lot of people making edits and its probably because the information about american idol changes weekly right now.

MsPacMan summary

Who knew that so many people were into Ms.Pac Man even now. haha. I was able to add information about the games and versions. But other people have been interested in the article. One person in particular made many edits to the article and fixed/reversed one of mine. Changes arent being made as quickly has those to the football teams but still more often than i was expecting.

justin wiki summary

Since I have stated to make edits to the Justin Chambers wikipedia article, it has improved some. The article is still a "stub" but there has been additions about his career, family, and home town. When I first made an edit I did not know the actor was married. During the semester I read a magazine that talked about his wife and 5 kids so that was interesting to add. Of my wiki articles, I think I was able to contribute most to Justin Chambers.

Commenting on a group member

I read the post from Dave about the switch from Laptops to Desktops. I have to agree about the increased convenience of having a laptop. There are a lot of times that I wish I had a portable computer so I can get work done in other locations then my apartment. Especially on days with weather like today...sunny and warm... it would be more motivating to sit at computer if I could enjoy that weather at the same time. I wouldnt feel like I was missing out on something.

The down side a laptop will be the dependence on connectivity. I know when I lose the internet for a period of time I am disconnected with all kinds of information and emails needed to function in class and at work. It has been interesting to grow up during technology innovations. Even comparing the amount of time I spent online 4 years ago with today. Hopefully we wont lose sight of enjoying good weather and postponing work just because we can carry our connection (wifi) and computer anywhere.

Justin Wiki 3

Glad to see that other wiki users have taken an interest in the Justin Chambers article. I changed information about where is family lives and is moving. Another user added the years that each of his children were born so that is cool.

MsPacMan edit 3

A last edit to ms PacMan

I changed the mode of the game from being "2 players alternating" and added that you can now compete with each other or cooperate to complete the boards.

Ravens Wiki Edit 3

After checking out the history of my baltimore ravens wiki I have noticed that someone has deleted the information about the upcoming season. After getting over the deleted information, that I thought was pretty relevant, i decided to delete the work metallic from the team colors. Once I realized I wasnt logged in and you wouldnt be able to track that edit, I logged in and re-added the word.

Picking a Major- Req. Blog

I am sure we have all have good reasons for choosing our major. Many of the reasons im sure many of us share. Assuming that we're all business majors, did we pick this major because there would be some type of job when we graduate? a way to make money? like working with people and or numbers?

In any case picking the right major is always a topic of discussion. Slashdot has a blog posting talking about Computer Science as a career and major. The opinion is raised that people are worrying too much. The IBM article is saying it is a myth that computer science jobs and engineering is being outsourced. It cannot be overlooked though that production effiency is increased and costs are cut in other places than the US. In my international business class the professor outsourced the creation of the class webpage for 1/3 of the cost of someone to do it here. I think it will eventually catch up with the united states and we may find ourselves falling behind in some places. We are doing the right thing by educating ourselves though. Maybe people are worrying too much but it never hurts to be aware of things going on around us.

Download to Number One

I found that there is a new thing happening in music downloads.. A UK band's song has gone to number one from only downloads. According to the article, downloads are now allowed to be counted towards the band sales even though the music isn't being sold in stores. Up until now downloads werent counted.

This is an interesting shift in the importance of the internet. It is impossible to ignore the amount of people purchasing music online and must be calculated in popularity in listing hits. Legalizing downloads has become a pressing inevitable issue.

It should be interesting to see how this effects the US music industry. there is also an example of a Ne-yo song that is on the top of the charts unreleased. the BBC article that Scobliezer links gives better details.

Ravens Wiki Edit #2

Ok, so I know that college basketball is just about finishing up, and today was opening day for a lot of baseball teams but I can't help be ready for football season to start again.

I made a edit to the Ravens article by adding the first preseason game scheduled against the Giants.... the Eagles are the following week.

....till then I will have to watch the O's.

Ms.PacMan Wiki #2

I added some to the Ms.PacMan page about the joystick version they are selling now.
.....Yes, we have it in my apartment and Yes we play it too much !!

Justin Chambers Edit #2

I was reading a magazine the other day and learned more information about one of my wiki topics. I added information about Justin Chamber's wife and 5 kids.

The family is currently living in NYC but Justin lives in LA. He plans to move them soon and I guess I will add that to the wiki when it happens

Found Interesting Link on Diva

As we create blogs to fulfill a class assignment I thought the article posted and blogged on Diva was relevent to our class.

"A great brand can take months, if not years, and millions of dollars to build. It should be the thing you hold most precious." Andy beal

Interesting read about the importance and advantages of maintaining a blog. It sort of goes against my argument supporting the doctor for not having the most amount of time to create one. Because of the amount and speed of credibility that can be given or taken away from a company name through the word of mouth marketing, blogs are important to monitor. Its is impossible to ignore the demands of consumers. Blogs and discussions have allowed businesses, small, large, and service to keeps watch over their reputation.

I found Brenden's blog entry about the adoption of RSS in the microsoft software to be quite interesting.

Sitting in class I have definately taken into account the advantages of having a newreader for the community involved in reading and writing blogs. I agree with Brenden that the inclusion of RSS from Bill Gates is evidence of its rising popularity and potential importance.

Gates stated the importance of "media across devices". This illustrates the connection of consumers technology and information. Things are becoming so interconnected and readily available and Gates has integrated and improved this into the microsoft browser.

From the site
So what improvements can we expect to see in IE7:
1) streamlined UI (tabs, zoom, better preview)
2) better security
3) platform capabilities built into the browser (especially the feeds store in rss)

I was interested in the article after I read my classmates blog and it should be interesting to see other who arent involved in the blogosphere already, respond to the new capabilties of gate's browser.
